Job Description
The Gas Cutter is responsible for cutting, shaping, and preparing metal materials using oxy-fuel gas cutting equipment, as per drawings and job requirements, supporting fabrication, structural, and pipeline works.
Responsibilities

Read and interpret drawings/markings to determine cutting lines, dimensions, and specifications.

Set up and operate oxy-acetylene/oxy-propane gas cutting equipment for straight, bevel, and profile cutting.

Cut, trim, and bevel plates, pipes, and structural steel sections as per fit-up and welding requirements.

Select correct nozzle size, gas pressure, and cutting speed based on material thickness and type.

Perform manual and machine-guided (track/profile) gas cutting operations.

Inspect cut edges for accuracy, squareness, and quality; rework as needed.

Prepare joints for welding (beveling, grooving) as per WPS requirements.

Handle and store gas cylinders (oxygen, acetylene/LPG) safely as per HSE regulations.

Check hoses, regulators, and torches for leaks or damage before use.

Maintain gas cutting equipment and report any malfunctions.

Follow HSE guidelines strictly — fire watch, PPE (goggles, gloves, apron), ventilation, and hot work permit procedures.

Coordinate with fitters, welders, and supervisors on cutting sequence and priorities.

Maintain records of materials cut and consumables used.
