Job Description
The Welder is responsible for joining and fabricating metal components using various welding processes, as per approved drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and quality/safety standards.
Responsibilities

Read and interpret welding drawings, isometrics, and WPS to determine joint design, welding sequence, and specifications.

Perform welding using processes such as SMAW, GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, FCAW, and SAW as required by the job.

Prepare materials for welding — cutting, beveling, cleaning, and fit-up of joints.

Select correct electrodes, filler wires, and welding parameters based on material type and thickness.

Perform tack welding and ensure proper alignment before final welding.

Inspect welds for defects (porosity, undercut, cracks) and rectify as needed.

Operate welding machines, grinders, and related tools/equipment safely.

Conduct visual inspection of own work; coordinate with QC for NDT (RT, UT, DPT, MPT) as required.

Follow WPS and PQR requirements strictly to maintain weld quality and code compliance.

Maintain and calibrate welding equipment; report malfunctions.

Follow HSE guidelines — proper PPE (welding helmet, gloves, apron), fire watch, ventilation, and fume extraction procedures.

Maintain records of welds completed, joints, and material usage as required.
